Alumni Evening of Jazz

Alumni Enjoyed An Evening Of Jazz

Gammon Alumni and Friends enjoyed the musical talents of violinist Carey Durham; saxophonist Claudius Anderson, and; soloist Myrna Clayton.  The National Gammon Alumni Association sponsored this event as a time of fun and fellowship for United Methodist clergy, spouses, and friends. This Evening of Jazz was held on Friday evening, October 13th, in the Fellowship Hall of Cliftondale UM Church, South Fulton, Georgia, with host pastor, and alumni Rev. Dr. Theophilus Stanford.

The ultimate goal of this event was to create a place for clergy collegiality beyond the boundaries of church meetings and conferences.  The talented artists shared their extraordinary gifts of music and song to an enthusiastic gathering of active and retired pastors, spouses, friends, and lay members.

Carey Durham and his violin set the mood for the evening as he blended the magical sounds of his stringed instrument with a genre-bending twist that can best be described as “heavenly.” Claudius Anderson (Caesar) and the melodious sounds of his saxophone inspired familiar R&;B songs to the remembrance of those who gathered, inspiring them to sing along.  Myrna Clayton, known as “America’s Songbird” and a regular performer at St. James Live, captivated everyone with her globally acclaimed voice, even encouraging the audience to join in song.

The Alumni Association hopes that this first of many future events serves to strengthen the collegiality of Gammonites and Friends, inspiring a deeper devotion to Gammon and its mission to prepare servant leaders for God’s work for the kingdom.
