The Pastors and Leaders Conference held in celebration of Gammon Theological Seminary’s 140th Founder’s Day was one for the books. With the theme “ASK, THINK, AND IMAGINE,” the conference brought together a multitude of pastors, leaders, and alumni to reflect on the brilliance, resilience, and consistency of the prophetic leadership that Gammon has exhibited over several generations and how to navigate what’s next for the future.
The conference covered a wide range of topics and provided invaluable insights and resources for attendees. It emphasized the importance of continually seeking knowledge, wisdom, and understanding to effectively minister to the needs of the community.
The conference explored innovative approaches to worship, recognizing the need to adapt to changing times and connect with diverse congregations. Attendees were exposed to new worship styles and technologies that enhance the worship experience. The conference emphasized how these innovations can be used to augment traditional practices, inspiring participants to explore new possibilities and engage congregations and communities in fresh and impactful ways.
Throughout the conference, prayer and worship remained at the heart of the gathering. Participants joined together to offer dynamic praise, to pray, and to hear powerful messages from some of the denomination’s Ebony bishops. These opportunities left attendees full of hope and inspiration for their respective ministries. The spiritual atmosphere created a sense of unity and reminded everyone of the importance of nurturing their own spiritual lives and actively discerning the expansive call God has for Gammon and Methodism in such a time as this.
In the midst of disaffiliation in the UMC, Gammon was rocked by another unexpected blow when, on April 14, 2023, the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) Board of Trustees declared financial exigency.
Many waited with anticipation to hear what Gammon’s next steps would be during such uncertain times.
Yet during troublesome and uncertain times, there still remains the prophetic voice of Gammon.
The Gammon Board announced at the 140th Founder’s Day celebration its decision to remain in relationship with ITC during this time while also seeking to gain its own accreditation for the future. This was exciting news to hear as alumni and friends of Gammon were able to voice concerns, hopes, and plans to ensure Gammon’s success in the sustainable future.
Additionally, the conference provided an excellent opportunity for alumni connections. Pastors and leaders had the chance to reconnect with old classmates, exchange ideas, and share their experiences since graduating from Gammon Theological Seminary. The strong bond among the alumni showcased the lasting impact of Gammon and its commitment to developing leaders who make a difference in their communities.
The Pastors and Leaders Conference for Gammon Theological Seminary’s 140th Founder’s Day truly embodied the theme “ASK, THINK, AND IMAGINE.” It encouraged attendees to never stop seeking knowledge, challenging their thinking, and using their imaginations to pioneer new methods of ministry. By focusing on financial wellness, mental health, innovative worship experiences, and fostering alumni connections, the conference provided invaluable resources and inspiration to the pastors and leaders who attended. It served as a testament to Gammon’s enduring commitment to equip generations of prophetic leaders. Here’s to another 140 years of unyielding excellence! 🌟🎉
