The Rev. Dr. Walter H. McKelvey, Sr., lived a life of servant-leadership as a teacher and pastor, scholar and professional, father and husband, brother in Christ and friend.
Dr. McKelvey received his Bachelor of Divinity degree and Doctor of Divinity degree from Gammon Theological Seminary/ITC. He went on to become Gammon’s 14th President-Dean and to serve the third-longest term in the school’s 140-year history.
Yet even after his passing in August 2022, Dr. McKelvey has continued to make an impact at Gammon. An Endowment Scholarship Fund has been established in his name which will facilitate scholarships for Gammon students to receive their theological education and impact future generations for God’s kingdom. Dr. McKelvey was passionate about recruiting students to share in the proud tradition and sound ministry preparation offered at Gammon. He promoted the idea of fiscal integrity throughout the institution to enable more scholarships that would increase student access to Gammon education.
Dr. McKelvey’s legacy continues through a collaboration between Gammon Theological Seminary, Dr. Loretta Felder McKelvey, and the South Carolina United Methodist Foundation: the Rev. Dr. Walter H. McKelvey, Sr., Endowed Scholarship Fund. Through our contributions, Dr. McKelvey’s passion for empowering Gammon students can continue. We believe God will use our faithful giving to accomplish more than we, or Dr. McKelvey, could ask or imagine (Eph. 3:20-21)!
